The library doesn't have an item that I'm looking for. What can I do?
Answer:
We strive to have materials for everyone, but sometimes you might come across books you'd like to read or movies you'd like to watch that we don't own. Not to worry! There are a few options for you if that's the case:
Look for the item in our digital collections.
If we don't have a physical copy of an item, it may be available online. If you are looking for something using our catalog, you can click on the "eResources" tab to see if the book, audiobook, CD, movie, or TV show is available on Overdrive (i.e. Libby) or Hoopla.
You can also search directly for the titles in Libby or Hoopla. Libby has ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines available for checkout. Hoopla has ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, television shows, and "binge passes" available for checkout.
Request the item from another library using Interlibrary Loan.
If the title you are looking for is not available at the library or online, or you prefer not to use the digital versions, we can request it from other libraries through interlibrary loan (ILL). You can submit a request yourself using our online ILL request form. You can also start a chat with a librarian, or give us a call at 479-621-1152, and staff would be happy to fill out the form on your behalf.
Please note that ILLs come with a $1 fee per item, due at the time of checkout. There is no limit to the number of items we can request, but the title must be out for at least 6 months before we can request it.
It can take up to 2 weeks for an ILL to arrive, depending on the location of the library we are requesting it from.
If you have any questions about ILL, you can start a chat with a librarian or give our ILL staff a call at 479-621-1152 ext. 6022.
Suggest the item for purchase by the library.
If you don't need a particular item right away, you can always suggest a purchase for the library. We can't guarantee that every suggested item will be added to our collections, but we do take suggestions into account when deciding whether to purchase. Note that it can take longer for suggested items to be available for checkout depending on the time of year the suggestion is made. Requests made toward the end of the year may not be purchased until the following year due to the library's budgeting schedule.
You can make a suggestion for purchase yourself by using our online purchase suggestion form. You can also start a chat with a librarian, or give the Information Desk a call at 479-621-1152 option 1, and staff will be happy to fill out the form on your behalf. You will have the option to provide your name and library card number if you wish to have the item put on hold for you if and when it is purchased.
