I returned a book last week, but I received an overdue notice. Why?

Answer:

There are a number of factors that can lead to overdue notices being sent, even if you returned a book. Because we check in each book by hand, your items are not checked in immediately upon being placed in a drop box. We may be understaffed, coming off a holiday, or facing a rush period during the summer that causes checkin times to be slower than usual.

Notices are also automated, and will sometimes still be sent if you returned your items shortly before the notice was scheduled to be sent.

Typically, you can expect items that you place in the dropboxes to come off your account within a few days. All carts of returned books are labeled with the return date, so that items are backdated to the return date to prevent overdue fees.

If you still see your items on your account several days after returning them, you can reply directly to your overdue notice email. You can also start a chat with a Librarian or call us at 479-621-1152 and staff can assist you.
