How does the self checkout machine work?
Answer:
Our self-checkout machine is a great tool for those in a hurry, or who just like to do things on their own! The self checkout machine can be found just next to the front entrance, directly across from the staffed checkout desk. You can use the self checkout machine to...
- Checkout items
- Take your items to the self checkout machine, scan your library card (or enter your library card number), and enter your PIN.
- Scan the library barcode on each item you have using the scanner. Unlike some of the other area libraries, you cannot simply place the items and have them all be checked out at once. Each item must be scanned individually.
- You can choose to have a receipt printed, or you may exit with your items.
- NOTE: some of our video game discs and cartridges are held behind the checkout desk. The self-checkout machine will allow you to check all video games out, but be aware that the game box may not have the actual game inside. Visit the checkout desk to receive the actual video game.
- NOTE: the self checkout machine cannot override errors, such as account blocks due to fines or checkout limits on certain item types. If the machine will not allow you to checkout a particular item, please visit the checkout desk and a staff member will be happy to assist you.
- Renew items
- You can renew items on your account by scanning you library card and entering your PIN, then tapping on the "Go to Account" box.
- Tap on the box that tells you how many items you have checked out.
- Tap the checkbox next to each item you wish to renew, and then tap the "Renew" button.
- The due date for your items will be updated, and you can print an updated receipt if needed.
- NOTE: not all items are eligible for renewal. If an item cannot be renewed, the machine will give you an error. Visit the checkout or information desk to ask a staff member to look into the error.
